The Halls of the Goblin King

Rilla informs you that the caverns can be accessed from the river. There is an entrance under a great waterfall and while the path will be long, you should be able to journey in relative safety . . . at least until you reach the inhabited parts of the cave system.

Taking a branch from a nearby tree, Rilla, who learned a little bit of magic from watching her father, touches the end of the branch with her finger tips and it begins to glow as if on fire.

"This torch will never go out, even if submerged in water. If you need darkness for whatever reason, simply hide it under your cloak, for it is not hot and will not burn. I wish I had some treasure to offer the Goblin King as a bribe, but Rin and I have nothing but the clothes on  our backs, though I suppose in his current form, Rin does not even have that much."

You assure the lady that you are willing to work with what you have and thank her for the torch. You then start off down the path to the river.

You find the waterfall just as she described it and though the curtain of water obscures the mouth of the tunnel, you can see the path leading behind the water and you push through into a cool, dark tunnel, strewn with strange stone shapes that cast eerie shadows upon the walls. For a few minutes your ears are filled with the sound of the river that runs above you, but then the path begins to climb upwards into the heart of the mountain itself and your world becomes dark and silent. This deep in the mountain there are no bats, only an occasional centipede, some of unusual lengths.

You turn a corner and find one such centipede, about three feet from head to back end, lying across your path. You spy a large rock which you could possibly use to crush the monstrous arthropod.

Do you destroy the creature?

or

Allow it to live and just hop over it?
