"I am afraid that I am on a quest of great importance, and danger or no danger, I must reach the island!" you inform the fisherman. "I understand if you are afraid . . ."
"Afraid!" the man shouts. "No one ever called Rolf Robinson a coward! If you must go you must, and I shall take you. Just don't say I didn't warn you!"
The fisherman, who is apparently named Rolf, guides you to his boat, a small, single masted vessel, and pushes off into the still waters of the great lake.
"If you are determined to risk your life, I can't stop you," Rolf continues as he sits at the rudder. "I will, however, offer you some advice: the Wizard of the Island is a fickle fellow. He likes to transform people, to un-person them as it were. He often sets a trap, disguising himself as a harmless old man or a young child, in order to trick someone into giving him an excuse to 'punish' them. We folk of the shore avoid the island when we can, but I've had to take shelter there due to a sudden storm a time or two and I find it is best to simply be as polite as I can to every person, animal, or object I encounter. You never know when one of them might be more than it seems."
You thank Rolf for his information. He guides the boat to a rickety old dock where an old man sits, fishing. Rolf looks at the old man, then at you, winks, and bids you farewell and good luck.
You approach the old man who raises his hand in greeting and addresses you.
"Well, what are you up to? Come to see the wizard, I suppose? Everyone has a wish," he cackles. He casts his line into the water. "Would you get me my tackle box?" he asks, indicating a rusty bucket on the rocks a few feet away. "If you do we can sit for a spell. Have you ever seen a spotted great lake herring?
Remembering Rolf's warnings do you
call the Wizard out for his obvious ruse?
or
Play along and offer to help.
