Hall of Winds

The very name "Hall of Winds" piques your curiosity and you touch the words gently with your finger tips. Instead of stopping, however, when they touch the parchment your fingers slip through and your whole body follows after them, slipping quickly through and into the paper.

Still recovering from this unusual form of travel, you shake your head and look around. You are standing on a spire, scarcely a yard across, suspended in the air above a sea of clouds. There is no ceiling and no walls that you can see. Only clouds and air and the sky above. All is quiet and then, all at once, a wave of sound beings to grow, like the rush of water or the roar of a crowd. The clouds below you start to  swirl like cream whipped by a whisk. The breeze twists the clouds beneath you into furrows and waves the dies down again. The clouds settle but only for a moment before the wind rises once more, pushing the white fog up into the air out over your head.

The air below you clear, you can now see that  your spire is in the middle of a massive basin at least a hundred feet across and just as deep. Far below you can see the Cloud Castle itself. Apparently the Hall of Winds is hovering several stories above the highest tower of the Fairy city. The thought makes you a little dizzy.

You  examine your spire and find a twisted thread, like that on a screw, around its sides. It is broad enough to sit upon, and with a deep breath you sit a top this and push off, sliding down and around and around and around. You  gasp for breath but come to a stop safely at the bottom. The wind now circles you playfully,  as if it is aware of your presence and wishes to interact. You put out your hands and it glides through your fingers.

You hear a gentle, tinkling noise and find a doorway ahead, sunken into the walls of the basin and framed with a hundred, silver wind chimes. You approach the doorway and find that, through some Fairy magic, the busy streets of the Cloud Castle are just on the other side.
