Investigating the Cavern

As you approach the cavern you smell a strong odor that is a strange mix between roasting meat and rotten eggs. You proceed with caution, taking a position behind a large stone to gaze into the opening. Inside, partially cloaked in shadow, rests a dragon. It is perhaps twenty feet from head to tail, not a huge dragon, but certainly the largest you have ever seen. Its sleek scales are the color of tarnished bronze and boney spikes flank its spine, up its neck, ending on the tip of its nose. On this last spike a skull has been impaled, like a hat or a piece of jewelry.

Knowing that you are ill equipped for dragon fighting, you start to turn away but before you can you hear someone calling out from inside the cave. You squint into the darkness and make out the shape of a cage on the far wall.

"Help me! Please!" a voice hisses. You creep closer, over piles of coins and rusted weaponry, and see a young woman standing inside the cage. She points to the lock then to the dragon. "It has the key around its neck," she explains. "If you can get it without waking it you can let me out!"

You agree to help her and approach the dragon.

or

You decide to be clever and pick the lock instead.

or

You really must be going now. Maybe later, lady in distress.
