on your own vs the Grootslang

You refuse the Goblin's help, but another Goblin hurries forward and offers you a sword and a new rowboat, and you strike out on your own down the Crystal River.

As you approach the Grootslang's cavern you hide your torch under your cloak and row towards shore.  The Grootslang is apparently taking an after dinner nap (Poor Brisby). It lies half in, half out of its cave. You fully intend to sever its neck while it sleeps, but the moment your rowboat bumps against the shallows it bolts up and snarls at you. You dive out  of the way just as its massive head careens towards your boat, shattering it.

You land in the water with a great splash and the Grootslang starts to fish for you with its trunk. In your fall, however, you lost your torch and it is now floating down stream. The Grootslang sees this and dodges after it, perhaps mistaking it for you, perhaps attracted to the light. As it glides past you take a mighty swing. Your blade cuts deeply into the fleshy folds of its neck and it rears up with a cry of agony before toppling over, twitching a few times, and lying still. You manage to fish the crown it was wearing as a nose ring out of the water. This is a precious looking item and you suspect it may belong to a Goblin of note, perhaps even the king himself.

You  hear the cries of Goblin voices and see a train of Goblin longboats come around the bend in the river sailing towards you. A well dressed Goblin with a longsword waves at you.

"We heard the sounds of battle, but it looks as if you have managed on your own," he gasps. "You have slain the mighty Grootslang! How will we ever repay you?"

You consider Rin's predicament and realize that this might give you the perfect leverage. You request to see the Goblin King.

By the time you reach the king's courtroom your clothes have drip dried. The king claps his hands with delight upon seeing his crown once more.

"Whatever you ask you may have!" he exclaims.

"Do you have a magical spell or potion that can be used to disenchant Sir Rin and return him to human form?" you inquire. The Goblin King looks thoughtful.

"I have the majority  of what you will need," he says. He summons a servant. "Bring me the Wand of Wishes!" he orders. The servant hurries away but returns a moment later with a gilded box. Inside is a plain looking stick, stripped of its bark and smooth to the touch but hardly remarkable. "This is the Wand of Wishes," he explains. "It will only grant you a single wish. You can use it to grant Sir Rin his shape once more, however, it will not free him from the pursuit of the Wizard of the Lake. For that I would suggest consulting with the Sky Queen, Frynna. She has often dealt with disagreeable Wizards and has a way with them. . . or you could use the wand to deal with the Wizard and use Frynna's magic to disenchant Rin. It's up to you."

Return to Lady Rilla and Sir Rin

or

I've already been to see Frynna. I am ready to disenchant Rin!
