You Leave the Tea Be

The old lady emerges from the house carrying a plate of cake and eyes your conspicuously untouched tea. She approaches you.

"Oh dear, if my tea is too hot for you, I apologize," she says. "Why don't you have a piece of my cinnamon cake while you wait for it to cool?"

She hands you the plate. The dog approaches you, whining once more, but with the old woman watching, you feel obliged to taste the cake. You pick it up off the plate and the dog leaps up and snaps it out of your hand.

The old lady's face turns red and she snarls at the dog.

"You meddling mutt! I should've kept you in a cage. I spare your life and this is how you repay me?"

You open your mouth to calm  her. After all, it is only cake; however, the old lady snatches up a broom and starts to pummel the dog over the head. He cowers rather than defending himself.

Do you interfere to protect the dog?

or

Do you take advantage of the distraction and flee?
